Vestas workers on the Isle of Wight and in Southampton were formally informed yesterday that both sites will shut. 425 jobs will be lost. The occupation of the wind turbine blade factory ended last week. Workers left the Danish-owned companies site after a protest of 18 days. The Bosses had obtained a court order after workers barricaded themselves in to delay closure.
40 workers have been found new roles within the Vestas research and development facility, also on the Isle of Wight.
Solidarity President, Adam Walker, commented:-
"So much for NuLab and their Green agenda. This firm is involved in the production of environmentally friendly technology to help power renewable energy but British workers are being laid-off."
