29/04/2011 - Workers Memorial Day

Yesterday was Workers Memorial Day. In all the hype and froth of the Royal Wedding perhaps the deaths of these 'commoners' were overlooked by many. Certainly the establishment press showed little interest as they had big concerns like cakes and dresses to discuss! Yet it was a day when we should all  have remembered the dead and pledged ourselves to fight for the rights and safety of the living. Many Solidarity members observed a minutes silence in their workplaces.

Solidarity joins with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to condemn the Con-Dem cuts in Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local authority resources, and the effect a lack of inspection and enforcement activity will have on working people. HSE cuts will lead to 11,000 fewer workplace inspections each year. We welcome all protests against these cuts which will inevitably put lives in danger.
