The Trades Unionn Congress has called on ministers to end their backing for the bid by China for EU market economy status.
TUC General secretary Frances O’Grady said: “Chinese steel dumping is wrecking the British steel industry"
She added: “The United States has sensibly levied serious tariffs to stop Chinese steel dumping. We should do the same."
The calls came as hundreds of steel workers marched through Westminster on Wednesday calling for government action to protect jobs and the communities that rely on them. The protest was organised by their Unions, Community, Unite and the GMB.
Tory Business Secretary Sajid Javid and Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones have travelled to Mumbai to talk with Tata officials, who are due to make a sell-off decision regarding their British assets within weeks. So far Tata has cut down the number of bids from seven to a shortlist of three.
